Humble Beginnings

The Forbes Foundation began as a college independent study project. At the time, the average personal computer cost more than $3,000; this effectively put computer ownership beyond the reach of those with average incomes.

Brain-storming with professors, Suzan Forbes decided to create a 501(c)3 non-profit to distribute refurbished computers. The intended beneficiaries of this project are people who are attempting to improve their lives and may not be eligible for traditional sources of assistance.

Humble-Beginnings

The Forbes Foundation has subsequently distributed personal computers to students and community members in Hawaii and in other states. We have relied on teachers, professors, and community members for recommendations on eligibility.

Our overall goal is societal improvement, through the encouragement of positive cultural values.
